Hey TH!NKers with a passion for music and MDGs - this is a message you'll want to hear!
The European Commission is offering all you talented (and passionate) TH!NKers the chance to make your voice heard (on a very GRAND stage) in a new contest about the MDGs!
The EC recently launched a brand new initative, “Music Against Poverty” available via the interactive iFightPoverty site. The project is a music contest and aims to raise awareness of the MDGs, in the lead up to the Review Summit in September by inviting participants to submit original songs about the MDGs.
The winners - selected through online voting and a jury of music professionals – will get a professional studio recording of their song and will have the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days in December 2010 in Brussels!
“Music is a powerful tool to mobilise people from all ageand all countries on the fight against poverty. This music contest is part of the Commission's will to engage the young generation and raise awareness of how important achieving the Millennium Development Goals is. I’m looking forward to many contributions from rap, hip-hop to hard rock.” said Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Development.
Music Against Poverty is aimed at Europeans, between 15 and 25, and asks for submissions of songs expressing support to the fight against poverty in the world.
To join, just submit your song and enter the Music against poverty contest. Nothing could be easier.
You’ll have your own webpage where you can advertise your song and explain why you want to fight poverty.
You can join if:
- you're an EU citizen between 15 and 25 years old
- you can write a song on fighting poverty around the world
- you submit your song before 30 September 2010 at noon CET.
Each participant will create an original song on the general issue of development, and notably on the eight Millennium Development Goals.
The deadline for submissions is September 30 and voting will take place until 31 October.
There will be two winners, whose names will be unveiled in November: one selected through online voting and another one by a professional jury.
The prizes are pretty serious, too—a professional studio recording of the songs and the opportunity to perform during the European Development Days which will take place in December 2010 in Brussels.
