Buy the dirty water, save the life of a child

Published 17th July 2010 - 7 comments - 4821 views -

When I joined WaterAid competition. I found how big the problem is with water. For example Hussam Hussein post video about Bottled water or What do you Th!nk of Banning Bottled Water? from Larisa Rankovic.

"This silent crisis kills 4,000 children every single day - more than HIV/Aids, malaria and TB combined, and is largely preventable."

UNICEF has a new project - The Tap Project

UNICEF has a new campaign in New York. A vending machine where you buy a water. But it is not a clean water. There is 8 flavours of water: cholera, dengue, dysentery, hepatitis, malaria, salmonella and yellow fever. Consumers can purchase their favourite flavour to donate to UNICEF’s efforts to provide untainted water to those in need.

You can find this text on the vending machine: “Thirsty? So are millions of people around the world with no access to clean drinking water. 4,200 children die of water-related diseases everyday. Help provide safe drinking water to developing countries. Donate today. You wouldn’t drink dirty water. No one should. Donate now by texting TAP to 864233 (UNICEF) or visit tapproject.org. Just a dollar provides a child with 40 days of clean drinking water.”

That is great idea, don't you think?

Note: The water isn’t really poisoned, but it does look very dirty.

Thanks for raising the impoartant issue of water. Glad that you appreciated my previous post on the same issue. Really interesting UNICEF initiative… thanks for informing us!

the topic of water is sex and it is easy topic for UNICEF fundrisers I think, but I don’t like the way the topic was presented. It is not only about giving a kids clean water. It’s also teaching parents or us to care about enviroment. We are responsible now for the droughts in Africa which just increase the statistic.

One dollar which most people in the west don´t even notice if they or haven´t got in their wallet….

    Great initiative!

I love the concept of the 8 flavours of water, which are the 8 main water bourne diseases. Great idea.

I believe there should be a button on the water vending machine allowing you to just pay a little bit more for the bottle of water you buy in order to support the thirsty ones.
