Reducing extreme poverty around the world, giving information and promoting human rights is important. I think Dalai Lama was right when he said: "Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life." I'm a thinker, yes, but also it's important to feel. Why in the earth do you always ask, "what do you think", instead of "how do you feel about it"? I also would like to live my life the way Bahá'u'lláh encouraged us to do "Let your vision be world-embracing, rather than confined to your own self."

The seminar focuses on the experiences and practices of promoting democracy and human rights in South Asia and Eastern Africa. What are the linkages between democracy, human rights and development? How to ensure equal participation for all?

Key facilitators of the seminar include experts in democracy and human rights representing NGOs and political parties in developing countries, and central Finnish and international institutions. Topics under discussion include:

  • Political and civil society experiences of youth participation in Nepal
  • Right to participation for minorities in Sri Lanka
  • Implications of inclusive democracy for development in Rwanda, Burundi and DRC
  • Promoting worker’s rights and inclusivity in participation in Rwanda
  • Political participation of women in Tanzania
  • Right to participation and right to development for young women in Ethiopia

After the seminar I will blogpost about the discussions.
