Infectious diseases, Albania on a par with Africa and Ukraine

Infectious diseases in our country have done that Albania ranks alongside Africa and Ukraine in terms of classification made recently about the spread of these diseases in the world. Although aspires to integrate the European Union, Albania still suffers the consequences of a third world country, especially in terms of Disease, which rank it on a par with countries in Africa and Ukraine. Gastroenteritis diseases, known as diarrhea medical terminology, infectious diseases associated with disorders of the digestive apparatus, continue to remain irreparable problem for Albania. Each year, Albania reports of diarrhea problems, which is the origin of the lack of personal hygiene, but also the surrounding environment. Director of the Institute of Public Health, Alban Ylli, makes it known that this fact was confirmed and the nationwide survey that was made about the diseases in Albanian population. According to Star, another reason for the occurrence of diarrhea in the population is still the quality of drinking water consuming Albanians, which often leaves to be desired. Diarrhea is shown more children, especially during the summer season and one of the reasons that it is causing malnutrition. The study showed us the same thing, to think that our work will focus precisely on these grounds in order to reduce them, - said the star. According to World Health Organization , every year, the world estimated 2 million children die due to diarrhea. The latest data released from it, say that this disease is responsible for about 20 percent of deaths in children worldwide. Also, World Health Organization emphasized that research in the treatment of diarrhea have been discontinued and this is not a positive signal. Larger cases are individualized deaths in Africa, where living conditions are very low. This means that hundreds of thousands of children every year lose their lives on this continent. Currently in our country, at the Institute of Public Health (IPH), there are laboratories for examination of diseases, but according to experts, this system should focus not only in Tirana, but should be extended throughout the country.

    Hi Thimi!

I didn’t know a lot about the diseases situation in Albania, but I knew about the one in Ukraine… have a look to the WHO report on the Albania situation: http://www.who.int/countryfocus/cooperation_strategy/ccsbrief_alb_en.pdf
I hope that, as you said, that the laboratories will be extended also on the countryside. Please keep me updated! smile

I also knew about Ukraine, but not Albania. Good you flagged it up and good to see changes on the way!

Thimi, that’s good you post an article from the field - I have found it very enlightening. What are the chances of extending the IPH throughout the country?
