Malaysia: Planting for Peat’s Sake

Published 27th August 2010 - 4 comments - 1183 views -

Raja Musa Forest Reserve in Selangor State, Malaysia, has a forest rehabilitation program for the peatland. Th!nk3 blogger Giedre Steikunaite has already written about this in Malaysian Vignettes. Robert Stephanicki has some photos on his Malaysia Th!nk3 Photoblog. This was journalist 'field' work with attitude, complete with gumboots ( or wellies for the Brits among us).

The project involves the Selangor Forestry Department, the Global Environment Centre, the Sathya Sai National Council and countless volunteers such as Eco Warriors who help to plant the trees.

This partnership of a government department, a Non Government Organisation and religious and community organisations is one of its real strengths.

This is a model that hopefully will be followed in other parts of South East Asia, especially Indonesia.

Thanks! Nothing I enjoy more than editing some video. Well perhaps one or two things.
