He looks like he's just out of high school but Andry Nirina Rajoelina is the DJ who has become Africa's youngest president... He is the actual strong man in my country ... Madagascar.
Rajoelina, 35-year-old telecommunications businessman and former DJ was bought to power after malagasy people had enough of the "old" President Marc Ravalomanana. The former President Ravalomanana, at that time, had the reputation of running Madagascar like his own private business, selling off a huge chunk of the island nations arable land to a South Korean company for agriculture in a bizarre deal and had a dream to buy faster airplane and so on. last saturday, Madagascar's exiled former president Marc Ravalomanana was sentenced to hard labour for life over what are known as the February 7, 2009 killings, his third sentence since his ouster. We are here to talk about MDG's challenge and the reality in the developing world.
From September 20-22, the United Nations will host the largest gathering of heads of state since the Millennium Summit in the year 2000, to review progress on the MDGs. How to feel when you know that your country (Madagascar) is banned from participating in any U.N. institutions ? Last year at the same summit, Rajoelina wasn't able to speak at the general assembly ... because the Transitional Government of Madagascar had come to power in following a military-backed coup in March 2009.
Nineteen months of political turmoil in Madagascar and still counting. International efforts to end the political upheaval on the island have so far been fruitless and the country's already poor economic situation has worsened with a suspension of foreign aid. A constitutional referendum in planned to be held on November 17, parliamentary elections in March next year and a first round of presidential polls on May 4, 2011. The security situation in Madagascar remains highly unstable with no solution for the political deadlock in sight. As reaction, gangsters are now raping it's remaining resources like there's no tomorrow without any concern or any notion that future generations should have a say but aren't yet here to speak up.
