While Belgium is waiting for a new government for already 90 days now – quite embarassing -, the rest of the world is waiting for a better future for the developing world for the last 10 years – even more embarassing. The doomsday clock is ticking!
And that's exactly what 15000 people wanted to make clear to world leaders last saturday at the first edition ever of “Wachtnacht” in Ghent: we are still waiting. “Five years before the MDG deadline we're behind schedule”, says Bogdan Vanden Berghe. According to the Secretary of 11.11.11 it's all about finding the political will. “Through this event we ask politicians and world leaders to keep their promise”.

A lot of musicians rallied around this initiative and they all gave an amazing concert committed to the MDGs. One of the artists gave this message to the public: “A person with hunger is occupied all day with trying to feed his family. He just cannot organise for a better living or governance. That's why he needs our help”. Amusement in its highest form.

But not only the performing artists were full of enthousiasm; the public – present in overwhelming numbers – was even more committed to the objective of Wachtnacht: “It's getting time this message is being heard by the politicians. We are tired of waiting”.

Aren’t we all?
