Everyone interested in ICT and Africa, read this article:
http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/07/undersea-cable-set-to-boost-west-africa-broadband/
It argues that "An expanding network and falling prices are expected to fuel explosive growth in mobile broadband in Africa over the next few years" (...).
My question to the technology-experts on this platform: how important is this development for the countries in West Africa? Will everyone be able to use an Iphone within a year? Or..?

Thanks for this piece of information, Hieke.
In fact, my Ugandan fellow journalists a lot of times expressed their high hopes for getting same type of connection.
Is a quality of connection an issue though, or is it it’s accessibility?
Hi Helena! Of course accessibility is equally an issue, but I guess when that cable is there, people will find ways to connect. Looking at the amount of mobile phones in the region I think technology is a quite straightforward “developer”.
Heike, I think the same, when there is infrastructure, the ways to use it develop all the time. And the benefits of it are almost countless in all spheres of life
