The Hark Singers bring news updates to the New News 2010 Conference at the Melbourne Writers Festival on 2 September 2010:
Pakistan floods, Filicide, Chimney lover's cremation, Lovers blowup
One of the oldest media embracing the digital age.
I was inspired to attend the two-day conference by the Online Journalism: Chances and Challenges conference in which we participated in KL.
The heavyweights of the Mainstream Media such as News Limited, Fairfax, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Ninemsn were well represented.
Mark Scott, Managing Director of the ABC gave the Keynote address on Thurday night complete with Hark news intro. Most of the audeince heard, for the first time, important breaking news about the Oz election's hung parliament ( New News 2010: Hark Singers Break the News).
There were also indigenous media, online media such as Crikey and the Tasmanian Times. Jan Schaffer's gave excellent insights into hyerlocal sites in the U.S. in her closing address.
Thanks to Margaret Simons and her team fromSwinburne University of Technology's Public Interest Journalism (PIJ) Foundation for a thought-provoking two days.
