In my last post I published the interview with Ales Piletski which I took just after the flawed local elections in the end of April in Belarus. My guest had quite pesimistic overview of his country. The next Belarusian citizen I want to post about is thought to be extremlly crazy – both ouside and inside the country. But I would rather like to say „unique”.
After one week in Minsk, where 2 million people live, I wanted to experience what I love the most in Eastern countries – Eastern colorful villiage. We took a train and ended up in Bobr at 6 pm. It started raining – a spring rain which doesn't matter for your mood. We didn't really know where to go as Mr. Pushkin insisted on speaking Polish, instead of Russian, with me. I could hardly understand him. So we just followed the rain to get deep to the forest.
Those of you who have seen the film "Stalker" by Tarkovsky can imagine what I felt when suddenly in the middle of forest we noticed a huge territory occupied by strange, army equipment. Later Pushkin told us that it is one of the biggest Belorussian military base... in such a peaceful place.
He appeared in front of us, all in white with the black umbrella. He looked unique, like a prophet I must say.

And he took us to his peaceful home.
On the roof of his house the traditional white-red-white Belarusian flag is hanging out.
The kids are learning the Belarusian names for tropical animals on the computer
and his wife is preparing traditional Belarusian meal in their cottage.
Pushkin has become famous for many reasons, mostly because of his strong artistic fight against Lukashenko dictatorship. He became a hero of the scandal, when in 2000 he painted the fresco „the Last Judgement” in the Orthodox Church in the village of Bobr, where there were Alexander Lukashenko and Metropolitan Filaret, standing surrounded by devils and sinners in hell. Now insted of Lukashenko there is a black hole. Guess why?
And this is the reason why we went there:

Wow!Thanks for the post. I want to know more about this Iwona. Let me know where I can read up more on this. Will follow your posts regularly now.
