Let me put this topic in a rather different way...the associative one.
Today's Aim: United Nations Millennium goal # 8 – Global partnership.
Where: Europe, The Netherlands and Bulgaria
Who: Geer Wilders (PVV) and Volen Siderov (Ataka)
Why: in the name of our future and globalization process
We need globalization, we need development, we need understanding and communication with the other nations. But can we talk about this with Geert Wilders or Volen Siderov?
To be more precise, I am hinting at two concrete examples in the context of the 8th Millennium Goal (UN) – Bulgaria and The Netherlands. I am talking about the nationalistic movements that represent a certain part of Europe's reality . Namely two concrete examples – Volen Siderov (BG) and Geert Wilders (NL) – providing their political, racist, anti-European, anti-globalizing ideas of ruling. I consider these examples as obstacles to our main aim – to unite our powers in the name of our humanity, in the name of globalization, development and equal chances and future!
How can we, the Europeans, achieve the 8th UN millennium goal – global partnership, if there are still such dominating political leaders influencing the voters behaviour? Or how can we teach others about global partnership if we are practising the wrong one?
Geert Wilders leads to regression, The Netherlands – recent gemeente verkiezingen – municipal elections - development – positive?! Anti EU; Islam – wrong religion; "The national campaign begins today. Today, in Almere and The Hague, tomorrow in all of the Netherlands… On 9 June, we'll conquer the Netherlands," he said.;(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7314636.stm)
Volen Siderov , Bulgaria – right radical as well – anti and against cultural variety and anti- European development.
And there are more, plenty more of them...
Therefore I am wondering - how long will it take us to understand that these ideas of division and separation are only leading to retrogressive development?

The scary things is that these guys are not traditional, but a new phenomenon, that seems to grow stronger with every European election. In Sweden we will most likely get our own right wing nationalists in the parliament after the elections in September.
The only way to prevent it I think is to empower citizens much more than today. Too many feel very alienated from what is going on in Brussels, or even in their own capitals, and they give their vote for anything that will annoy “teh establishment”.
I feel something is rotten in the state of Denmark…
Anyways, seriously now, I can’t be sure, but these appearances are capturing some residual effect of the mis-functioning of our “Western” societies…
Globalization has got different meaning for different people , EU came into existence because European were facing problems competing the economies like U.S and Japan and they wanted have a say international affairs . I my opinion more block are showing up on world map , ASEAN , Associations of south American nation and many more going show , The world in not going towards Globalization but going towards a new system of regionalism , and they are no concepts such as humanity in international affairs it,s all just interest , and U.N is going to get nothing out of it,s all as history has it , there are very few international disputes that it has handled properly and for sure it has no clout over and u.s and other big wigs.

Yesterday I had the same experience - in the middle of Sofia I saw a couple of young people who gathered a list of signatures of citizens who are against Turkey to be the member of EU!They were a representatives of VMRO - extreme organization which pretended to be nationalists, patriots and so on . On my question what are their arguments against Turkey , they sad that they love their country and that’s why they don,t want Turkey to be member of EU !What a misunderstand patriotism ! If you love your own country that doesn,t means to hate your neighbors.
Patriotism is not the way of Peace…sad to hear these news
“Can we talk with nationalists and populists?” Not only we can but we should. “How long will it take us to understand that these ideas of division and separation are only leading to retrogressive development?” No doubt WE understand that, so now we need to convince the others, for whom “global partnership” is of no value. This is what democracy is about: talking, not shooting. Ability to reach out to your adversary is much more valuable than wringing hands in the company of like-minders.
Being Belgian, an extreme right political party is not new to me. And however I am not a fan of them whatsoever, I agree with Robert that we have to talk to them. That is the only way to make people realise that it is not what we need.
@ Robert Stefanichki : I totally agree that the concept of “this is what democracy is about” is more likely to be applied in other countries , except in Bulgaria where the power of communism is still dominating. I am witnessing that the majority of my friends are participants in these “anti” groups and hating everything and everyone, except their patriotic understandings and the leader of the party(who is respectively providing some socialist ideas in his theories). They are just admiring him, thinking that this is the right way of co-existence with the others. Democracy, dialogues and understanding are unfamiliar to these people. But of course, I encounter the fact that Bulgaria is on other stage of development far behind the other European countries….
