I'm filmmaker and I'm student at film school now (again). I like writing (I wrote more scripts than made films). I have blog and I'm writing articles for some online magazines. But film student is not a journalism student and this is a reason why I was discard from competition Young Reporters Against Poverty.

Young Reporters Against Poverty - Trailer from European Journalism Centre on Vimeo.

I was looking forward to when I can try make a broadcast radio to this competition. It was a challenge. Why radio entry, if I'm deaf? Do't worry. I can speak. I can say my opinion about aid given by the European Union to support the economic, social and/or political progress of developing countries, not just write it. smile But they told me that I'm not a journalist. Never mind! There are many journalism students which are passionate about development issues. This is your opportunity, not mine.

I wish you good luck!

I wanted to enter this competition too, but I was also disqualified as I’m not a journalism student. I think it’s rather short sighted of the organisation to exclude voices from outside the traditional journalism university arena. The competition would have been strong for your participation, Jan.

the problem in our region with journalistic studis is that there is so little practical classes and in fact students are not so much interested in becoming journalists. I finished journalism and I’m not working in my profession. But people in the West Europe do not understand that. I rember when I lived in Denmark. When I said I study journalism and I do not plan to be a journalist they were shocked. But that how it’s work with universities in Poland.

Clare: I think, there will be a small number of journalist student from Czech republic. hmmm
Iwona: This problem is in Czech republic too. Many students are not motivate. But this can motivate them.

I believe you don’t have to study journalism to develop your career as a JOURNALIST! It gives you a broader view of the world If you study something else…oh well good luck to everybody else!!
