Their Stories: Rewired State

Published 12th July 2010 - 1 comments - 1065 views -

RewiredState.org is a series of events dedicated to bring geeks together to work on solutions to be proposed to government. This time the initiative focuses on younger generation of coders and designers who want to try their skills on government data, learn and live the possibility of watching their suggestions implemented! I think it's a brilliant idea directed at people who with a little a bit of guidance will shade new light on cooperation between the government and geeks. I was taking to Tim Davies who is involved in organizing the Oxford event sponsored by Oxfam:

(update: the side seems to have problems with the flash, so for now, please navigate over to iPadio to listen to the interview here, apologies!;))

Sounds great smile As he says, it must be a tremendous experience for teh participants to doa project like this together.

It is also the right thinking - there is so much information, even govnernmental, online, that the problem is really to process it, and finding ways of doing this automatically.

What is a little problematic with Governance 2.0 is that it gives a lot of power to those who process the data… maybe in the future the geeks will be more powerful than politicians wink
