Dariusz Szwast, father of a little boy who was born without one of his left hand and forearm, decided to run 750 km across Poland to raise the money he and his wife needed to fund his baby's prostheses. He conducted his run successfully at the beginning of this month raising 72,063 zł (with the target of 100,000zł). The raised amount of money is extremely impressive considering this individual initiative. I must admit though that the fact it was really well documented on-line must have helped in spreading the message, and will help to continue this great story.

Dariusz was feeding updates to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube presences. You can read about the story in English on the main landing page. I am once again amazed how new media (together with great mainstream media coverage) has helped in raising awareness about the commitment of those parents and about support they have received from the public.

It is great that now we have free tools allowing us to share our story, connect with our supporters and simply achieve more. One can run miles in the face of hopelessness knowing that there might be even a spark of a chance to help. One can run miles just to make a statement - like this girl featured in one of Dan Pallotta's viral videos for his cause:
