Some Hollywood studio executives are sat round a desk, desperately trying to come up with an idea for the latest blockbuster. Suddenly the door bursts open and an over-excited junior lackey runs in with an idea he's desperate to pitch. The executives decide to give the eager young water carrier a chance- they're willing to listen to anything.
"It's a rags to riches tale" He starts, "A youngster is born into severe poverty, raised in a childrens home in Portugal is given the chance to play for a charity organisation and impresses enough to be bought by a lower league club." The executives look at each other, unimpressed.
The lackey continues: "But here's the best bit after only a handful of games, he sold to a bigger Portuguese club, however, before he plays a competitive match........he's bought again.....by Manchester United!"
The executives look at each other dumfounded, then finally one of them speaks: "What a far-fetched pile of bullsh*t! No-one will ever believe such nonsense! Get out!!"
Not even Hollywood would try and peddle such an implausible 'rags to riches'- in next to no time- tale, unless it was billed as some sort of fantasy. However, in the case of Tiago Manuel Dias Correia aka 'Bebe' it's all true.
Bepe was living in Casa do Gaiato de Santo Antão do Tojal shelter, a place for children whose parents are unable to look after them, when he was chosen as one of three other shelter residents to play with CAIS charity organisation which helps organise the Homeless World Cup. Despite what has been claimed by certain articles, Bebe himself did not play in the Homeless World Cup, although with his meteoric rise he hardly needed to.
The Homeless World Cup, is an annual international football tournament which works with 64 national grass roots football projects to reach around 30,000 homeless players. Around 70% of the players involved go on to make a success of their lives, be it thorugh football or other means.
After playing for CAIS Bepe was picked up by third divsion side, Estrela da Amadora and after 26 appearances was then bought by Guimarães a top flight Portuguese side. However the phenomenonal story of 'Bepe' had only just begun, following a mere six pre-season games Manchester United bought the youngster for a fee believed to be around £7.4 million.
Portuguese Manager and Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant Carlos Quieroz is thought to have recommended Bebe to his former boss, with Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid also thought to have been interested.
Bebe's former coach Jorge Paixão said of the man suddenly on every United fan's lips: "He's a player who is the fruit of street football.
"Nowadays players are schooled in the clubs, but he has none of this. He's an old-school player. He learned to play in the street and has that natural creativity, an irreverence, and that makes all the difference."
Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill says that contrary to reports the striker will not be sent out on loan this season but become a part of the United squad in a bid to integrate him and help his English improve.
Whether or not Bebe is a success, the fact that he has gone from children's shelter to one of the World's biggest clubs in only a few years gives hope to many youngsters Worldwide and shows that if you've got the talent and dedication anything is possible, sometimes even regardless of your start in life.

Lovely, very hopeful and inspiring story, Justin. Is he going to play now in the Premier League?
Thanks Helena, yeah he hasn’t been loaned out so hopefully he will get a chance although its likely he will figure more in the cup games.
