Voluntourism and “gap yahs”: let the discussion continue

Published 30th August 2010 - 4 comments - 4697 views -

On this website, four posts and 46 comments have been devoted to the discussion on "voluntourism": being a tourist and a volunteer at the same time, usually practised in a "developing country".

On the comment section of the British newspaper the Guardian, a similar discussion is now going. The first article classifies gap years in India as "glorified holidays". The second article defends them. If you are interested, have a look, but not before watching this brilliant video:

It was indeed an intersting series of posts, and a good discussion. Thanks for reminding it to us.

On the other hand, what once wasn’t a clear intention can, over the years, become one.

    Hahahaha! Yah.

This was one of my favourite topics on teh platform. You all know I’m very much opposed to the Volontourism idea. Thanks for sharing the links.
