Warmer business, fresher planet

Published 20th July 2010 - 0 comments - 1185 views -

Financial experts are too used to the cold business as usual scope that has boosted global warming and increased a dry thread. Business as usual values, together with a huge lack of critical thinking brought us deep into a maze without an end. Today the only way out is by putting more heart to business and finally get to cold the overheated planet.
Therefore, warmer business means a fresher and healthier heart. The new generation needs more accurate and more down to earth approaches and projections coming from the financial departments. But, of course, the only way to achieve this is through creativity and innovation.
Unfortunately, those two are far away down the hall, back in the so called creative departments. So a mixture of capacities may be the answer for a more truly creative financial department and it will require an effort from these two corners.
But… be careful, this mix doesn’t have a single thing to do with what is called “creative accountability” a dangerous concept that is strongly tied to the business as usual umbrella that got us into the maze in the first place.

Here are 5 hints to achieve a warmer business are:

 1- Cold blooded cooperation.

2- Redefinition of pricing policies: from a cold wins and losses approach to an investment and opportunity one. (Watch out for extremely short term “investments”. Especially into poor countries).
3- Investment and development canalized towards renewable energies, energy saving and efficiency. (Get away of oil spill, its too old and too expensive in terms of health).
4- Construction of sustainable infrastructures, beyond the skyscraper traditional approach. 5- And, last but not least… cooperation and co financing efforts between the private and public sector.
